Who we are

We're a global team of engineers, designers, and advocates united by a mission to build ethical digital solutions for organisations creating positive impact in the world.

Our Story

Built on conviction.

Beneficent was founded with a simple belief: that technology should serve humanity, not the other way around. We started as a small team of engineers frustrated with the gap between the ethics we believed in and the digital products being built for the nonprofit sector.

Today, we're a distributed team spanning continents, working with mission-driven organizations to create digital products that are not just effective, but also accountable, transparent, and aligned with their values.

Meet the team

Experts and learners

Our team brings decades of experience across software engineering, AI, and social innovation. But we're always learning.

George Gallant

Partnerships & Client Relations

George has spent thirty years helping organisations make sense of technology — and figure out what to actually do with it. Much of that time was with Accenture and Wipro, including a period with Topcoder, Wipro's on-demand platform for digital and data talent.

Outside of work, he studies Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, supporting children and their parents or carers in navigating developmental trauma.

Nigel Watson

Strategy & Delivery

Nigel has worked across business and technology for more than forty years, leading transformation programmes for organisations including GE Capital, Microsoft, Travelport and Vodafone. Most recently he spent nearly a decade as CIO of Northumbrian Water Group, where his work touched cyber security, transformation, and innovation.

He founded the Northumbrian Water Innovation Festival, now in its ninth year. He is co-chair of Wave Utilities, advises a number of technology businesses, and is currently studying at the London Interdisciplinary School.

Hannah Watson

Product & Design

Hannah spent five years as a Product Manager at IBM before taking a rather different path — travelling overland to China and back, and spending several years figuring out what meaningful work looks like when you're not in an office.

She now brings that product thinking and curiosity to Beneficent, working on projects with people trying to make a genuine difference. She is based in Sicily, where she also writes about drought and wildfires, and helps run a permaculture farm.
